Mining is a hazardous sector with a broad range of occupational exposures and hazards. The Workplace Health Branch within the Pittsburgh Mining Research Division of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health performs research on hearing and musculoskeletal health, and develops interventions and tools to assist the mining industry with prevention. Dr. Ramachandran is a Professor in the Division of Environmental Health Sciences and the Director of the Industrial Hygiene Program at the University of Minnesota. His research focuses on human exposure assessment to airborne contaminants in both occupational and non-occupational settings. His exposure assessment work has included the development of measurement technologies.
