Visiting Partners Program Format
The Visiting Partners Program (VPP) is designed to allow you to continue your professional employment while acquiring new information and skills you need to enhance your work. It provides you with access to the superlative resources at the University of Michigan (UM), promotes collegial interactions with UM faculty, and develops professional and rewarding relationships with your fellow VPs.
The VPP has yearlong and half-year appointments. The on-campus component consists of a one day session held once (for half-year appointments) or twice (for year-long appointments) on a day agreed upon by the partner, faculty adviser, and other on-campus professionals (e.g., research librarians). Every effort is made to bring all partners to the Ann Arbor campus on the same day to facilitate collaboration and networking.
There may be opportunities for the continuation of the program for another term for some VPs.
This is not a degree granting program, and participants pay no tuition or other fees. Rather, each VP is eligible to receive a total of $2000 in direct project support over the first year of the Visiting Partners Program, dependent on satisfactory progress.
Ann Arbor is 25 miles from the Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW), a major hub that has excellent connections throughout the country. Travel costs will be covered up to a reasonable ceiling for attendance at the program’s on-campus sessions.
All sessions include extensive opportunities for interaction with a team of faculty advisers, research librarians, media specialists, and fellow VPs. Working closely with faculty mentors, VPs go through the process of identifying, planning, conducting, and reporting on OEHS-based projects relevant to their place of work. While on campus, the program utilizes the classrooms, conferencing facilities, lounges and other amenities found in our new School of Public Health building. Between on-campus sessions, VPs will be in frequent communication with the VPP program manager, their faculty mentor, and each other. VPs will have access to UM customized educational software which offers a web-based pallet for blogging, chat rooms, and posting of educational materials including podcasts and dates of webinars.
