IAQ in Michigan Schools: Improving Indoor Air Quality to Respond to COVID-19 and Beyond

Join us for an upcoming webinar hosted by EPA Region 5 about the ways Michigan schools can utilize local, state, and federal resources to make lasting improvements to IAQ!  This webinar will feature speakers from University of Michigan, Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory, Michigan Schools Business Officials (MSBO), ASHRAE Detroit Chapter, Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE), Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Michigan Department of Education, Michigan Board of Education, South Lake School District, Detroit Public Schools Community District, Flint Community Schools, and Kent Intermediate School District.

Participants will learn how to—

  • Develop a game plan to prepare school staff, update school building ventilation systems, and implement effective, evidence-based IAQ interventions and preventive maintenance practices to reduce virus transmission, create healthy learning environments, and optimize school building energy performance;
  • Use Michigan-based resources and federal, state, and local stimulus funds to make lasting IAQ improvements to school buildings and ventilation/filtration systems; and
  • Replicate best practices used by school districts in Michigan to assess ventilation, IAQ, and HVAC systems to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in schools as well as provide healthier indoor air, including working with consultants and contractors to perform assessments, commissioning, and retro-commissioning.
