November 9th, 2023

Taylor Adams, BA, Sociology and Anthropology

Course Description:

According to a Mental Health America Mind the Workplace 2022 report, 78% of workers surveyed agreed that workplace stress affected their mental health. Physical health issues and a loss of productivity were also identified. An increase in training  for OHN’s in workplace mental health risk factors for safety considerations, as well as for physical health, has been identified as a gap.

Worksite OHN’s are seeing patients that identify higher levels of workplace stress, illness, or disease, as well as an increased absenteeism with mental and behavioral issues. Mental Health conditions have physical factors and contribute to disease and chronic conditions experienced by workers. Identifying the risk factors is needed by OHN’s in workplaces for safety policies.

The Mental Health Workplace Toolkit can be an effective resource for development of Total Worker Mental Health programs. Specific industries identified may benefit from development of workplace wellness programs to improve healthiness factors, as well as mental health perceptions of happiness.

Course Outcomes:

1. Discuss effective practices and examples of how organizations contribute to worker well-being

2. Provide resources on how to support your workers’ well-being
