School of Public Health also ranks among top schools in 5 specialty rankings
The University of Michigan School of Public Health has been ranked #5 in U.S. News and World Report’s list of Best Public Health Schools.
U.S. News also issued new rankings of five specialty fields within public health: biostatistics, environmental health sciences, epidemiology, health policy and management, and social and behavioral sciences. These specialty rankings were first issued in 2023. Michigan Public Health ranked among the top programs in each specialty:
- Biostatistics: #4
- Environmental Health Sciences: #6
- Epidemiology: #5
- Health Policy and Management: #3
- Social and Behavioral Sciences: #6
“I’m honored that our peers across the country recognize the myriad strengths of the School of Public Health and our departments, including our high quality interdisciplinary research, training, public health practice and engaged learning,” said F. DuBois Bowman, dean of Michigan Public Health. “I’m grateful to every member of the Michigan Public Health community who helps us conduct cutting-edge research and deliver world-class educational programs.”
U.S. News rankings of accredited schools and programs of public health are based on the results of peer assessment surveys sent to deans, other administrators, and faculty at accredited degree programs and schools of public health. Respondents are asked to rate the academic quality of programs on a scale of 1 (marginal) to 5 (outstanding), and the schools with the highest average scores appear in the rankings.
Michigan Public Health is tied for #5 with the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, and is the #2 public school of public health on the list. Last year, Michigan Public Health was also ranked #5, in a three-way tie with Columbia and the University of Washington School of Public Health.
“It’s important to note that rankings are just one measure of academic quality,” Bowman said. “At Michigan Public Health, we are committed to continuous improvement and growth in our efforts to provide a top-tier educational experience and pursue lasting solutions to the world’s most pressing public health challenges.”
