IAQ in Michigan Schools: Improving Indoor Air Quality to Respond to COVID and Beyond

Center Deputy Director, Dr. Stuart Batterman co-presented with Sonya Pouncy from Detroit ASHRAE participated in the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) webinar on Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) in Michigan Schools related to their background on ventilation and air cleaning.

This webinar is designed to help school districts in Michigan develop a game plan to prepare school staff, update school building ventilation systems, and implement effective, evidence-based IAQ interventions, and preventive maintenance practices to reduce virus transmission, create healthy learning environments, and optimize school building energy performance. This lecture highlights recent research at Colorado State University at the interface of engineering, exposure science, and public health, with an emphasis on air quality. This lecture will also discuss technologies (which leverage innovations that over 100 years old) designed to overcome classic limitations associated with exposure assessment: time, cost, usability, and scalability.
